Review: The Body Shop: Drops of Light Brightening Serum

Aratrika says:

I was almost on the verge of giving up on my skin when I discovered this small opaque bottle which came packed in an elegant white and pink box. The first thing that attracts me to any product is its smell and this serum probably has the best scent of any beauty product (except for a proper perfume) could have! It smells of fresh roses which is really pleasant and soothing, to say the least.

I have been using this serum twice a day for a little over a week now and I can already see that the quality of my skin has improved. Not only does the serum aim to brighten the skin but it also helps reduce dark spots; and taking the reduction of dark circles on my face as evidence, I can pretty much assure you that this product stays committed to what it promises!

Not just that, it has added immense moisture to my skin – which feels way softer than before without getting the ugly greasy effect. Besides, after using it for a while, I realized that it also reduced the acne marks I had on my face and made my face glow which is really amazing!

Although I used the serum in place of moisturizer, it did its job so I can only recommend mixing it (for even better results) with your own, too! Honestly, this product has brought a very positive effect on my skin in a very short period of time! It has secured a place in my ‘must have’ list and if there is anyone out there who wants an easy, light and quick remedy to revive their dry and dull skin, this product is a go-to!

The new release from The Body Shop is a beneficial lightweight serum. It comes in an opaque glass jar with a pipette type of packaging which is really good for maintaining the quality and longevity of the product.

The first thing to notice about the Drops of Light is its scent: a rosy, slightly sweet (but not too much) perfume with an amazing staying power. The texture of the serum is great too, it almost feels like pouring water over your skin. It then stays on the skin to plump and smooth with no greasy residue whatsoever.

I incorporated this product into my morning and evening routine and I must say that when you use too much, it can feel a bit tacky on your skin. Therefore, I would recommend using it exactly as the instructions say – apply just a few drops to both the face and neck area and maybe to your décolletage as well.

After a few days of use, I began to notice the first results: the slight scar I had from a recent breakout disappeared much faster than usual (thanks to the acids the serum contains). A little tip: be careful and use an SPF while applying this product on your skin. It helps you avoid pigmentation (since our skin tends to be more affected by the sun when using acids).

So, take extra care to protect yourself. Overall, this product has been a great addition to my skincare routine. The formula is pleasant and contains beneficial ingredients such as aloe, rose extract, and ascorbic and salicylic acids which help with exfoliation of the skin, However, what makes the experience of this serum really outstanding is undoubtedly its divine scent that no other product has.

When I first heard of the Drops of Light I could not wait to try it. The product comes in a small, opaque bottle coupled with a dropper style dispenser so you can precisely regulate how much amount you want to use and you never waste the product. The consistency is very light and soaks to the skin quickly so you do not have to wait long for the serum to get absorbed. Oh, and I have to mention it has a perfect smell! As someone who does not prefer strong scents in skincare (although I like bold fragrances), I find this one absolutely appealing. It has a clean, fresh, light aroma that reminds me of summer breeze.

I spent ten days testing the serum, carefully applying it to my skin every evening before going to bed. Immediately after the first use I could see the difference. It made my skin lighter and somehow gave me that “photoshopped” look that models in magazines have. Moreover, after having used the serum for a few days, my skin appears more hydrated and the pigment spots from acne are less visible which is really great since my skin tends to be oily in the T-zone and dry on the cheeks.

To sum it up, I am glad that The Body Shop came up with this serum. It is an amazing product with a reasonable price that I would recommend to anyone who has problems with pigment spots and dry skin. However, I must admit that although it is great, I believe there is something better on the market for my skin type that I have not tried yet.

Drops of Light Brightening Serum comes in a very cute little opaque bottle with the dropper inside. The fact that the bottle has dropper made me very happy because it simplified the usage and makes the product more hygienic. I applied the serum directly to my face without additional efforts or wasted product. Overall, the small handy bottle completely satisfied me.

When I opened the bottle I was afraid that the serum was oily and silicone-y, but it was such a relief when I found out that the consistency was watery and not sticky at all! I layered the serum with the day crème every morning because I personally think that serum is the products that cannot be used by its own. The serum is not drying, did not clog my pores and did not cause breakouts during the whole period of every day usage which is 11 days up to this moment.

Currently my skin struggles with terrible dryness especially on my chin and bottom part of my face in general. What I noticed immediately is the fact the serum helped visibly reduced the amount of scaling. I can’t say that the amount reduced dramatically but for me it was noticeable and very important because the serum claimed to be hydrating. Speaking about long term results I noticed that my skin has become glowy and healthier, like it’s shining from the inside. It is not greasy shine, but the shine of groomed, healthy skin. I don’t know whose this achievement is: either the serum or the complex skincare, but the results are visible. And not only for me, which is what is so inspiring!

Because of my emotionally expressive face, I have a horizontal line right in the middle of my forehead which makes me sad every time I look in the mirror. I really hope the serum will help me to get rid of this annoying imperfection.

To sum up, I was very skeptical about The Body Shop Skin Care, although I personally think they Body Care lines are awesome; but the given product unexpectedly surprised me! Now my skin looks brighter and has a number of other positive changes. I will definitely keep using it as a part of my morning care and recommend it to my friends!

The Body Shop Drops of Light Brightening Serum is a moisturising product with a difference: it has been created to brighten skin and reduce dark spots too with a velvety soft texture that is quickly absorbed by the skin. It is a very comforting serum that not only moisturises and nourishes my skin but provides a subtle radiant glow.

There is no greasy residue nor heaviness and it leaves the skin beautifully soft. The two main ingredients are red algae, an anti-ageing, anti-inflammatory ingredient that boosts the skin’s circulation to create a lit from within glow and Vitamin C to brighten the complexion and to improve collagen levels.

As with any serum, it can be used alone after cleansing (both day and night) or layered with moisturiser for a more intense result. I’ve also taken to adding a few drops of The Body Shop Drops of Light Brightening Serum into my foundation to soften coverage levels and to add a little extra radiance. It’s great if you have a dry complexion. I should add that this can be worn under makeup because it’s not oil based and therefore, will not alter the finish of any product applied on top.

I have read that with continued use may help fade hyper-pigmentation (acne scarring and dark spots), something that I would imagine takes time but good to know. Add The Body Shop Drops of Light Brightening Serum to your shopping list and routine, if you want a quick , gentle fix to dry and dull skin without the need for a heavy or greasy textured product.

Sum up

The Body Shop Drops of Light Brightening Serum is a must have for anyone who seeks an affordable, easy-to- apply, nourishing moisturizer that fights blemishes and leaves skin flawless. It is mainly intended to help with discoloration and hyper pigmentation caused by excessive sun exposure, age or hormonal changes that are difficult to remove, especially when they are rooted too deep in the skin. Over time, it promises to reduce imperfections and yellowness while making skin look brighter and more translucent.

So, if you are one of those whose main priority is having a healthy looking skin, then this serum is definitely what you should be trying out in your next beauty routine!
